CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
A.
BACKGROUND
Indonesia
is a nation that is actually proud
of a nation rich in natural
resources, the nation that holds
tremendous potential for the culture and the people are great value for the struggle. History has a lot to prove how the
spirit and soul of nationalism heroes of
our predecessors in the fight for
this nation became
an independent nation, dignified and independent nation
that is able to determine the direction of his life without being a slave to the invaders. But today, Mother earth is crying being
grieved to see the condition of its people far from
the values of religion, culture and customs were adopted.
"Wabilkhusus" behavior and interaction of
young generation (read: teens) are expected to
be the hope of the
nation's youth are very alarming portrait.
Fighting
between schools even among universities that have made a hobby
weekly, rampant drug among adolescents from starting wearer, addicts, dealers
and some have already "successfully" into the city, increasing the
number of teens who have sex before marriage are simultaneous with
increased abortion, soaring
smokers among adolescents, rampant crime cases that
the culprit is lack
of awareness among adolescents
and teenagers to
education is the latest portrait of the young generation
(read: teens) nation
today.
Some sources give a very poor percentage
that "Noted, 19 percent of teenagers
in Indonesia or
about 14 thousand teens, indicated become
drug users, Emergency or Standby, Jakarta
45% Adolescent Drug
Users, until the year 2010
around 30,32persen occur sex outside
marriage in Indonesia, of that number, 15 percent
do adolescents. Well 46.19 percent of HIV-positive
at an average age
of 15 to 29 years. And there are
2.3 million abortions
each year are
performed Indonesian population, 20 percent are teenagers. If sex
continues committed by juveniles,
the next few years the population of Indonesia is only filled by grandparents,
for teens died from abortion. According to the Global Youth Tobacco Survey 2006, in Indonesia was 64.2 percent
of school children exposed to cigarette smoke for them at home. The study also concluded
37.3 percent of
students smoked, and 3 out of 10 students
were first smoked aged 10 years ".
This phenomenon would be a bad sign for the
existence of the nation, if the problem is not immediately
addressed.
Seeing
the pathetic condition
above, this second
component shall all nations are obliged to
work together in addressing the
problems young people (read:
teenager) with various
real program that is able to keep the behavior, relationships and bad habits above.
If ignored, it is possible to sink into the abyss
of this nation and
a nation that despicable and undignified. How
can this nation into a developed nation, and prosperous when
the younger generation heir to relay the
nation plunged into the behavior
and relationships are much distorted. Encourage and engage
young people in a variety of activities both social activities and scientific activity
is one of the best
solutions to keep teens out of bad behavior and
relationships. Cultivate scientific activities that are going to make
our young generation intelligent generation in
science, skills and manners in interaction.
Along with the entry of the current era of
globalization, also accompany foreign cultures into Indonesia. At the time of
this sophisticated, technological development is not accompanied by a positive
foreign cultures coming. Foreign cultures entered into our country freely
without any filtration. In general, Indonesian society open to innovations that
are present in their lives, but they have not been able to sort out which are
in accordance with the rules and norms and which are not in accordance with the
rules and norms in force in the Republic of Indonesia.
Indonesian state has norms that must be obeyed
by the people; norms include
religious norms, legal norms, social norms, norms of decency. Each item has a
norm respective role in regulating human life. In general, the Indonesian
people now seemed no longer ignore the stipulated norms. Behavior evidenced by
the many irregularities committed by many people, such as acts of corruption,
stealing, degrading religion, and so on. Cases like that signify the
destruction of this nation mentally. So that young people who come to be
expected can be worse than the present if the mental retreat is transmitted to
young people today. It is already beginning to happen now, the fact that the
case is currently a lot of teens who do deviations that are not in accordance
with the norms prevailing in Indonesia. They no longer ignore the existing
norms. Ease of access to foreign cultures and ease the entry of foreign
cultures without any filter made vulnerable young age tempted by things that
could harm him. As many blue film into Indonesia, this problem is very negative
impact on society, especially among teenagers. Many blue films or pornographic
scenes which can accessed easily via the internet. The teens are free to access
and watch movies without the supervision of their parents. This raises the
adverse implications for the adolescent psyche itself, to watch porn scene, the
teens are so motivated to do the things he wants to watch and there is something
new that is not supposed to be on trial so wanted to try. If it is happen like
this who to blame?
This problem is just one
example of a case that is now common
in Indonesia. So
I as a student wanted the theme "Influence of Foreign Culture for teenager in Indonesia". For more details, I will discuss in chapter further
discussion.
CHAPPTER II
DISCUSSIONS
A.
Culture
Culture or
cultures derived from Sanskrit which buddhayah, which is the plural of buddi
(mind or intellect) is defined as matters related to the mind and human reason.
In the English language, culture called culture, which is derived from the Latin word Colera, is processing or working. Can be interpreted also as tilling the soil or farming. The word culture is also sometimes translated as "culture" in Indonesian. Culture is a way of life that developed and shared by a group of people and passed down from generation to generation. Culture is made up of many complex elements, including religious and political systems, customs, language, clothing, buildings, and works of art. Language, as well as culture is an integral part of human beings so many people tend to think of genetically inherited. When someone is trying to communicate with people of different cultures and adjust differences, proving that culture is learned.[1]

B.
Teenagers
Teenager is often associated with myths and stereotypes
about the irregularities and inappropriate. This can be
seen from the many theories that discuss the development of disharmony,
emotional disorders and behavioral disorders as a result of the pressures
experienced by adolescents because of the changes that happened to him or due
to changes in the environment. In line with the changes that occur in
adolescents, they are also faced with the different tasks of the task in
childhood. As is known, in every phase of development, including in
adolescence, individuals have developmental tasks that must be met. If these
tasks well done, it will be achieved satisfaction, happiness and acceptance of
the environment. The success of individuals fulfilling these tasks will
determine the success of the individual meets the developmental tasks in the
next phase.
Hurlock (1973)
provides limits Teenager based on
chronological age, which is between 13 to 18 years. According Thornburgh
(1982), the age limit is the traditional boundaries, while contemporary course
restrict their teens between 11 to 22 years. Social changes such as the
tendency of children of pre-teens to behave as indicated teen makes
contemporary adherents of entering them in the teen category. There is an
increasing tendency of young people to continue their education or job training
(internship) after finishing high school, making individuals aged 19 to 22
years are also included in the a teenager
group, with the consideration that the teenager identity
formation continues throughout the life span.
Furthermore
Thornburgh divide adolescence into three groups, namely:
1.
Early teenagers: between 11
to 13 years
2.
Mid teens: between 14 to 16 years
3.
Late teenager: between 17 to
19 years.
At that age, developmental
tasks that must be met are as follows:
1.
Achieve a new relationship and more ripe with
peers both same-sex and opposite sex
2.
Achieving social roles of masculine and
feminine
3.
Accept the physical state and can use them
effectively
4.
Achieving emotional independence from parents
and other adults
5.
Achieving certainty to be economically
independent
6.
Select the job and prepare for work
7.
Prepare to enter into marriage and family life
8.
Develop the ability and intellectual concepts
for achieving competence as a citizen
9.
Desiring and achieving behavior socially
responsible
10.
Obtain a series of value system and ethics as a
code of conduct (Havighurst in Hurlock, 1973).
Not
all teenagers can fulfill these tasks well. According to Hurlock (1973) there
are some problems experienced by teenagers in fulfilling
these tasks, namely:
1.
Personal problems, is problems related to the
situation at home, school, physical condition, appearance, emotional, social adjustment,
duties and values.
2.
Problem typical teenager, namely the problems
that arise due to the unclear status in teenagers, such as the attainment of
independence issues, misconceptions or stereotypes based on erroneous
assessment, the rights of the larger and fewer obligations imposed by parents.
Elkind
and Postman (in Fuhrmann, 1990) mentions the phenomenon of the end of the
twentieth century, namely the development of equality of treatment and hope to
children and adults. Children today flooded the stress that comes from rapid
social change and confuse the public as well as the expectations they perform
adult roles before they cook psychologically to deal with it. These pressures
consequences such as school failure, drug abuse, depression and suicide, somatic
complaints and chronic grief.
Further,
he said that people in today's era of advanced technology requires a person who
is very competent and skilled to manage these technologies. Inability teens
keep up with technology that can make them so quickly feel like a failure,
embarrassment, loss of self-esteem, and emotional disorders.
Bellak
(in Fuhrmann, 1990) is devoted to the influence of media pressure on adolescent
development. According to him, today's youth are faced with an environment
where everything is changing very fast. They are swamped by too much
information and too fast to be absorbed and understood. Everything continued to
accumulate until it reaches what is called information overload. As a result
there is a sense of alienation, despair, absurdity, identity problems and
issues associated with the clash of cultures.
The
developmental tasks of adolescence is accompanied by the development of
intellectual capacity, stress and new expectations experienced by adolescents
make them easily susceptible to interference in the form of disturbance of
mind, feelings and behavior disorders. Stress, sadness, anxiety, loneliness,
self-doubt in adolescents makes them take more risk with delinquency (Fuhrmann,
1990).
The
above description provides an overview of how the myriad problems experienced
by today's youth. Pressures as a result of physiological development in
adolescence, coupled with the pressure due to changes in social and cultural
conditions as well as the development of science and technology so rapidly
often result in psychological problems such as adjustment disorders or
behavioral disorders. Some forms of behavioral disorders can be classified in delinquency.
Development
in adolescents is a process for time gold in various aspects to achieve the
level of maturity. This process is a process that shows the close relationship
between the physical aspects of the psychological development in adolescents.
C.
The Influence of Foreign Culture for Teenager in
Indonesian
Indonesia is
known as a multi-ethnic state and religion, from where Indonesia has a variety
of different cultures. In every culture there are social values and high art.
At the current state of Indonesian culture is slowly fading. This because of
the development of technology that finally provides a negative impact on native
Indonesian culture. With a lot of the development of electronic media, western
culture can easily enter Indonesia, so it starts to change mindset and behavior
of the Indonesian people, especially teenagers.
Western culture
into Indonesia actually has the positive and negative impacts. The positive
impact for instance, creativity, innovation of science and technology, life and
professionalism discipline, etc. But in this case will be discussed about the
negative impact of foreign culture on Indonesian culture, especially among
adolescents.
Current
technological developments also characterized by the development of culture in
Indonesia today. As we have mentioned above that the entry of foreign culture to
Indonesia without any filtering. In general, adolescence is a critical age
where what he saw fun certainly imitated. Cultures can fit easily through any
such television with movie form, video, internet, etc. Currently the internet
is not a medium rare again, this tool can be used anywhere and anytime by the
user. Usually the community more often to access something new over the
internet. This in warnet was occasionally teen porn videos freely without
supervision.
The impact of
social problems is very difficult for the adolescent; one consequence is increasing number MBA
(Married by Accident). Youth lifestyle metropolis seemed to have not been
stopped, not to mention the nightlife that has netted our younger generation, no
doubt the strength of the negative current in the lives of today's teenagers,
trigger teens to try drugs, such as drugs, marijuana, methamphetamine, and
etc., not to mention free sex lifestyle.
Lifestyle free
sex among adolescents has not uncommon seems we hear, first they watch things
that are not appropriate he watched,
then raised the curiosity want to try, then make it happen to his girlfriend.
This is often the case, and this is worse free sex is not done by one person,
but to some people. Causing venereal diseases and AIDS. Unstable young age they
are not thinking about the consequences, but the recording is only concerned
with their lust.
Parents should
instill religious norms are hard and coercive to her children. Because
religious norms are norms of the most important and only with one's religious
faith can keep away from all wickedness that would harm them.[2]
The second thing you can do to force parent’s free sex is to provide education
about the dangers of free sex. Between parents and children to be open with
each other, the children can tell anything to her parent and freely express
their aspirations to his parents. Parents also need to know their children's
friends, because adolescence is the age-where we are comfortable hanging out
with anyone and find new friends.
In addition,
formal education or school have to anticipate foreign cultures by teaching
theoretical knowledge and practice, as well as educate children to be children
who are disciplined and good morals. We know from television bleak there are
some schools that teach to his immoral acts. Like the case of teacher harassment
action against his.
D.
Factors Entry of Foreign Culture
1.
Lack of strict guard at the gate region of
Indonesia
In the gate
region of Indonesia, seems to lack a special selection body can select Cultural
Studies Cultural Studies foreign-negative into Indonesia. As there are many
pictures and porn videos imported from outside.
2.
Lifestyle which is oriented to the west
Today many
Indonesian people who imitate the lifestyle from the west, which is doing free
sex, mini dress, free lifestyle without bond. This term is used to couple that
no knot. In Indonesia, this lifestyle is not justified because it violates the
norms of religious, moral norms, and norms of decency. Sanctions imposed for
noncompliance are also quite heavy, especially on the surrounding environment.
3.
Misuse of Technology
As we discussed
above that the use of any technology that can facilitate the flow of incoming
foreign cultures. Most of the teens abusing the use of this technology in a way
that is not true. People can access the negative things they want. This brings
a bad thing for those who enjoy it.
E.
Foreign Culture Negative Anticipation Logged
Indonesia is a nation which has the
nation's dignity and self-esteem so high that this nation should not be broken
simply because of the negative effects of foreign parties who wish to destroy
our nation's next generation mentally. There are some actions that need to be
done by the anticipation of the younger generation against foreign influences
that are negative are:
1.
Be critical and thorough
2.
Expand science (Science and Technology)
3.
Must be in accordance with the norms prevailing
in Indonesia
4.
Embed "I Love Indonesia"
5.
Increase faith and devotion.
CHAPTER III
CONCLUTION
A.
CONCLUTION
Teenagers are individuals in the social categories most
easily receive updates,
positive or negative. Motorcycle gang phenomenon becomes negative example
of how easy it is to teenagers involved in
violent acts. By the
people, especially adults, adolescents
often considered different. In fact, contrary to the principles or values
held by adults or
parents (Soekarno, 1989). According to O'Sullivan
(1974), one of the things that distinguishes adults
with teenagers is,
adults usually will
defer pleasure until
a future time (differed gratification), while teenagers crave excitement today (spontaneous
gratification). What do teenagers who
seem not to think about the future become a
source of conflict between
them and the adults
or parents.
Teens are also typically characterized by the
nature of easy to adjust to
what the ideals or
desirable happened to him (Soepardi, 1990). Therefore,
the social environment is quite large role in the process of identity formation adolescents.
There are at
least three ways of looking at teenagers.
First, adolescence as a time of socialization attitudes and knowledge
appropriate for certain
adult roles. Second,
adolescence as a period
of transition position and role. Third,
adolescence as the
owner of "youth culture" enormous influence and
may be contrary to the values espoused adults (Parker,
1976).
Adolescents are aware of the importance
of a culture as a yardstick against his
ours behavior. On the one hand, the main
culture provide guidance,
direction, support, feeling safe to teens,
etc. on the other hand, adolescents also have
the desire to be independent. This
led its own distinct culture
with the culture at large.
The term youth culture show aspects of how a typical teenage life. Competition
and protest (alienation
and protest) is
one of the directives raised by teenagers
as part of
youth culture. Referrals are usually raised by
teens who feel
let down by the social conditions that are happening.
They express dissatisfaction
with social withdrawal or actively trying to
change policies and practices. Sequestration
is usually shown in a variety of forms of
protest, as do mischief and acting apathetic
(Grinder, 1973).
Furthermore, Fischer (1976) explains that the formation
of youth culture is the result
of urbanism. Focusing
on urban area population is quite large
and heterogeneous will weaken the bond between
individuals, social structures, and
normative consensus that can lead to
isolation, social disorganization and anomie.
Usually these communities are
developed on the basis of indulgence
at the same thing, such automotive, music, and fashion. They
spend free time with
his group and develop its own language that is often difficult to understand adults.
The study of groups of adolescents
in urban areas is something that is important
to be studied thoroughly and
systematically, since they are considered as a change agent, successor to the nation.
